Frequently Asked Questions
What percentage does TikTok Shop take?
US: ~6% referral for most categories — 5% jewelry & pre-owned, promo tiers as low as 3% on very large orders. Payment processing is included. UK ~5%, EU ~9%, Japan 7–12% by category since May 2026. But the referral fee is only the entry price: with affiliate commissions, fulfillment, ads and refunds, scaling sellers typically pay 38–52% of GMV all-in.
Does the referral fee apply to shipping?
Yes — the fee is charged on the total the customer pays, product plus buyer-paid shipping. A $29.99 item with $5 shipping is charged on $34.99.
How is affiliate commission charged?
You set the rate per collaboration or via open collaboration — commonly 10–20%. It's deducted from your settlement for attributed orders. If you sell mostly through creators, this is usually your biggest single cost, bigger than the referral fee.
What is FBT and how much does it cost?
Fulfilled by TikTok — TikTok's warehousing and shipping service. US rates start around $3.58 per order for light packages and scale with weight bands; storage fees apply in peak season. Self-fulfilling replaces this with your own carrier cost.
When do I get paid?
TikTok Shop settles orders after the return window closes — typically 7–14 days after delivery depending on market. Your settlement report shows gross sales minus all fees; reconciliation gaps are common and worth auditing monthly.
Does TikTok Shop report my sales for taxes?
In the US, platforms issue a 1099-K based on gross processed volume — which is higher than your actual deposits after fees and refunds. Work with your accountant to deduct fees properly; don't pay tax on gross GMV.
Is this calculator affiliated with TikTok?
No. TTShopCalc is an independent tool built by a developer for sellers. Not affiliated with TikTok or ByteDance. Rates are compiled from public TikTok Shop documentation and verified as of February 2026.
